Four Days of Hiking and Paddling North Carolina’s Piedmont Region

I recently spent four days exploring the Piedmont region, and I was blown away by its natural beauty and abundance of recreational activities. I hiked to cascading waterfalls, paddled down scenic rivers, and camped under the stars. It was an unforgettable experience, and I can’t wait to go back..

**Day 1:**.

I kicked off my adventure with a hike to High Falls, one of the most popular waterfalls in the Uwharrie National Forest. The trail was well-maintained and easy to follow, and the views of the waterfall were breathtaking. I spent some time swimming in the pool at the base of the falls before continuing on my hike..

After my hike, I drove to the Uwharrie River and put in my kayak. I paddled downstream for several miles, enjoying the peace and quiet of the river. I saw a few other kayakers and canoeists, but for the most part, I had the river to myself..

I camped at a primitive campsite along the river. It was a beautiful spot, and I fell asleep to the sound of the river flowing by..

**Day 2:**.

I started my second day with a hike to Morrow Mountain State Park. The park is home to several hiking trails, including the challenging Morrow Mountain Trail. I opted for a shorter hike to the summit of Morrow Mountain, which offered panoramic views of the surrounding countryside..

After my hike, I drove to the Badin Lake Recreation Area and rented a canoe. I paddled around the lake for a few hours, enjoying the beautiful scenery and the warm sunshine..

I camped at a campground near the lake. It was a busy campground, but I was able to find a quiet spot to pitch my tent..

**Day 3:**.

I spent my third day exploring the Uwharrie National Forest. I hiked to the summit of Pilot Mountain, which is the highest point in the Uwharrie Mountains. The views from the summit were incredible, and I could see for miles in every direction..
